What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the verity of life in the world or in a habitat. Different regions have different verities of species. for example the plants and animals living in here in Georgia are much different than those living in Kenya. This is because different plants and animals need different characteristics in order to survive in a particular area. A Cactus on the savanna does not always need to grow tall to get sunlight while a tree in the rain forest must grow tall to reach the sun in the thick canopy. But that does not mean that some species cant be found all over the world. For example grass can be found in almost every region on earth. Different areas also have different amounts of biodiversity. In the desert there are not nearly enough resources for many species to survive off of in high populations. But in the rain forest there is abundant food and water for several different species of plants and animals to share.
Why is this important?
It takes a wide range of plans and animals to support and ecosystem. They build the most important part of an ecosystem, the food web(see food chain). Having different species with different qualities helps to preserve the delicate food web and balance the ecosystem.
