Monomers
All proteins are made up of subunits called amino acids. There are 21 of these acids that are used by humans to make every complex protein in the human body.
Polymers
After amino acids go through a dehydration reaction to form a peptide bond, they become a molecule called a protein. The chain of amino acids that makes up a protein is called the protein's primary structure. Chains of this structure that make loops or helixes is called the secondary structure. Finally, interactions of the R groups on the amino acids make up a 3-dimensional structure known as the tertiary structure. This last structure is what gives all proteins their functions.
